Television time outs

Television is a part of our life. We all spend time in front of it. Some more than others. The average 8-18 year old spend 4 hours/day in front of television and another 2 hours in front of a computer. That's pretty shocking! When your favorite show takes a break and goes to a commercial, instead of clicking to another channel, why not take a TV time out and do a little exercising. Try doing this:

Balancing Activities: If you've sprained your ankle or want to strengthen the muscles to prevent a sprain try this:
  1. During one commercial, balance on one foot. Switch feet at the next commercial.
  2. If that gets to easy, start doing one foot knee bends during the commercials.
  3. Make it harder by closing your eyes.
  4. Alpha balances: Choose a letter and use your body to create the letter's shape. Try spelling words that you hear in the commercial by using your body as spelling tool.
  5. Partner balances: Try different balances that you can make with a partner.

Strength Building:
  1. Push ups, knee push ups, wall push ups.
  2. Sit ups, Crunches, or leg lifts
  3. Burpees
  4. Mountain Climbers
  5. Jumping Jacks
  6. Tuck Jumps
  7. Tornado Twists
  8. Wall Squats
  9. Tricep dips
  10. Skipping
  11. Leg Lunges
  12. Stair walks (two at a time)
  13. Squats
  14. NEW - AB KILLERS! - A.K.A. - the PLANK.

Flexibility:
  1. Hamstring "Hams" stretches (toe touches)
  2. Quadracept "Quads" stretches (pull heal of foot back to butt)
  3. Calf stretch
  4. Shoulder stretch
  5. Chest "Pectoral" stretch
  6. Groin stretch
  7. Leg swings

Gymnastics:
  1. Forward roll ( make sure that you have been taught this before attempting this on your own)
  2. Log roll
  3. Rope walk - take a skipping rope and walk along it forward, backwards, sideways
